The 7 Chakra (continued)
(The 7 Chakra Centers - page 1)
The fifth chakra, called the throat chakra or Visuddha resides in the throat area at the third cervical vertebra. The thyroid and parathyroid glands, the neck shoulders, arms, hands and hearing are affected by this chakra. It represents our creative expressive energy, communication skills or "speaking our truth". People who are stronger at the lower three chakra communicate separateness or individuality and have limited understanding of others. They are more likely to label people as "good or bad" and their communication reflects "black and white" thinking. With a well-developed fourth and fifth chakra you can communicate compassion, love and spiritual insights. Your understanding is more "universal". Malfunctions manifest as thyroid or hearing problems, stiff neck, sore throats and colds. Sky blue is the color of the throat chakra.
Chakra Six is the brow chakra or Ajna. It is sometimes called the third eye or psychic center. It is located between the eyes, just above the eyebrows. Ajna is associated with the pituitary gland and the eyes, seeing and intuition. Visualizations for improving intuition and psychic powers often include images of opening the third eye. Gently pulling up the skin between the brows adds to the imagery. Likewise, if information is coming in that you'd rather not see, you can gently simulate closing the eye. Headaches, vision problems and nightmares are associated with the brow chakra. It's color is midnight blue or indigo.
Chakra Seven, the crown chakra, is found at the very top of the head where a baby's soft spot would be. Some people believe this center is actually a few inches above the head. It is also known as Sahasrara meaning the "lotus of a thousand petals". The crown chakra feeds energy to the pineal gland (as does sunlight), the cerebral cortex and the central nervous system. It nurtures our spiritual connection and helps us understand and integrate ideas and levels of consciousness. Difficulties with learning, depression and feeling alienated from others are related to malfunctions of Sahasrara. The color for this energy center is violet. Understanding the 7 chakra centers and their function provides you insight into the workings of the energy system and helps you promote healing in yourself and others. When the 7 chakra centers function optimally, the roots of old patterns and wounds can be released along with the blockages. You can enjoy better states of physical and mental well-being and our evolution as spiritual beings is unblocked. Modern research has yet to validate the existence of the chakra system. Technology has only recently caught up with the wisdom of the ancients in regards to the human energy field or biofield which was strongly denied in conventional western thought. Since the seven chakra centers have always been associated with the biofield in eastern thought, it makes sense that their "discovery" isn't far behind. Continue to the next page to experience three healing chakra meditations. Two of the meditations help clear and balance the seven chakra centers. One meditation is devoted solely to the heart center. Read about the other four energy centers in the 7 chakra system.
