A Note from Val

Happy September!

September is a time of transition for many of us. Students and teachers (me included) head back to school and shift to living our days with routine and structure.

On Monday, September 7th, we celebrate Labor Day in the U.S., a federal holiday honoring the contribution of workers. For many, it is a day of rest. It marks summer's end and the final opportunity of the season to enjoy get-togethers with family and friends.

Although a number of people love their jobs and find meaning and purpose in them, many more do not. Beyond the paycheck, their career brings little sense of fulfillment. It is something to be endured until retirement or a better option comes along.

Whether or not you identify with the job lovers or haters (I've been on both sides of that fence), it's a good time to explore why we do what we do and how we can bring more joy and purpose to it.

I hope this month's focus on life purpose helps you find more fulfillment at work and home so you enjoy the healthier, happier life you deserve.

Values and Life Purpose

Last month we talked about values, what they are, and why they matter. Your values are part of who you are. They influence every aspect of your life - your relationships, your health, your career and hobbies. How much you live in alignment with your values, or not, is reflected in your happiness level, your work ethic, how you take care of yourself, and how you interact with others.

Read the article in August's ezine here.

An outflow of your values is your life purpose and what brings meaning to your life. If you are unhappy or want an even more fulfilled life, this is a key area to explore and make changes.

I encourage you to identify your values and life themes. Do what it takes to align your thoughts and actions with them. This is often more a matter of changing your mindset than your circumstances. It may or may not come easy, and is well worth the effort you put into it. A greater sense of joy and meaning, and all the benefits that come with them, will be your rewards.

Knowing and Living Your Life Purpose

New to HMBH is this page about Your Life Purpose and the Meaning of Life. This information, exercises, and videos on this page make it more of a mini-course than an article.

It contains ideas that are likely to shift your thinking about life purpose. They will help you angst less about what your purpose is and step more fully into living it.

Do yourself a favor. Take your time reading the article. Answer the questions and do the exercises. Write your responses so your brain gets that your answers are meaningful. (Just thoughts are not.)

Then please answer one or more of the questions at the bottom of the page in the comments section. (They don't show up on facebook.) Do you like this article? Please like it and share it via the social media buttons. Much appreciated, thank you.
