A Note from Val - Loving the NNY WeatherWe had nothing short of a miracle here in NNY for weather these last few days. It felt like we were away on vacation without having to leave home.Sunny days in the 70's and 80's is unheard of this time of year. 50's and rain, or even snow, is the norm.
It was great to wear shorts and a tee-shirt, take a long walk, and sit out on the deck relaxing in the sunshine. Budding lilac bushes, greening grass and cheery dandelion flowers brightened the neighborhood. No one dared complain about how hot it was! My husband was given fair warning, but even I was tempted once or twice! The fair weather also gave us the much needed opportunity to air out the house for several hours each day.

Did you know that the common dandelion is a master herbal medicine? Instead of poisoning your yard to get rid of this gem, it would gladly stay and become your herbal ally.
The flowers, leaves and roots have lots of vitamins, minerals and healing compounds. You can eat the greens, make dandelion flower wine, and tincture the roots to make a gentle liver tonic. Make a tasty mineral rich vinegar. Pack a jar with chopped clean roots and leaves. Fill with apple cider vinegar. Infuse in sealed jar for several weeks. Pour liquid into a bottle. Enjoy!
