A Note from Val - New Additions to the Healthy Living Guide

Last month's indoor pollution topic got me thinking about detoxing the body. Then the "writing bug bit". There are now several new pages in the Healthy Living Guide. These include eco-friendly living and detoxifying your life and body. From a holistic perspective, they all go together.

For ideas about using common household ingredients for many cleaning needs, check out the videos on the non-toxic cleaning page.

Featured Article - Do You Need to Detoxify Your Body?

Your body is designed to detox naturally. Detoxification is vital for good health. But detox "heroics" are rarely needed, despite the graphic photos often shown by advertisers.

There are two relatively easy, every day steps you can take to help your body do its job of detoxifying unwanted waste.
1-Limit toxins going into your body.
2-Supply what your body needs to get the toxins and waste out.

Read more about these two detox steps here.

Choose the tips that work for you as part of your routine healthy eating and living habits. Then special "cleanses" will rarely be necessary and you'll be way ahead.

Quick Health Tip -Enjoy Bitters for Detox

Spring is the traditional time for house cleaning and internal cleansing. Bitter spring greens have long been relished for their cleansing and nourishing properties.

Bitters stimulate digestion and elimination, so they're good for cleansing. The fiber and chlorophyll they contain help too. Arugula, watercress and dandelion greens are three bitter greens you can add to salads.

I remember my mom talking about how her mother would saute dandelion greens in a little olive oil and garlic. You can add a dash of vinegar for better absorption.
