Healing with Energy
Healing with energy is common to all peoples. Spiritual texts of many traditions are filled with stories of healing. We may have forgotten or suppressed this ability, but it's still part of who we are. When we, or someone we love is hurting, it's natural to touch or rub the area with our hands. If you look at the familiar hand position of prayer with fingertips together, you will recognize this position as similar to that of feeling energy in the hands. Many people who work with subtle energy healing start with this hand position as they center and ground. As with all skills, some people take to healing energy work more naturally than others. Most of us learn by taking classes or studying different bio energy healing techniques followed by a lot of practice. Either way, we can all do it. Children, who do not have all the limiting beliefs that adults have, take naturally and easily to healing with energy. They learn faster and often get good results. In addition to hands-on subtle energy healing, there are many other ways to do healing energy work. Energy psychology techniques, meridian therapy and sound healing are just three examples. Although healing with energy has gained a lot more acceptance, there's still a lot of people who question it's validity. At best, they consider it's success the workings of the mind and the placebo effect. I shared some of those same doubts. And no doubt, as with any other modality, the mind does sometimes play a part. But from my own experience, I know there's more than that. Here's why.
Bible stories about "laying on of hands" and healing the sick always fascinated me. They created a strong desire in me to do the same. When I learned about therapeutic touch I was filled with skepticism and hope. This modality was being used by a fair number of nurses at the time and already had the backing of some research. So I took a leap of faith and signed up for what was to be the first of many healing energy work classes. The story below shares the incident that took me from a skeptic to a "believer" in the possibilities of healing with energy. The rest, as they say, is history.
"Mom! My arm. It's warm."
Those were the words my teen son spoke as he lay in a bed, waiting for jaw surgery. The IV was causing him a lot of discomfort. The nurses came to check it four times, always saying it was fine. I was feeling frustrated, and knew I just had to do something. A few weeks before this, I had taken my first Therapeutic Touch class. Even though I took the class and maybe felt "some things", I still wasn't sure I believed this healing energy work thing was for real. Tentatively, and worried that someone would see me, I slowly moved my hand a few inches above his arm, from elbow to fingers. I could feel denseness and a drag over the IV area.Encouraged, I continued. After a few passes I watched in amazement as his clenched fist gave way to an open hand. I heard my son say, "Mom, my arm, it's warm." It had been quite cold, and yes, now it was warm. Was this the infamous placebo effect at work? I don't see how it could have been. My son, already partly sedated, had no clue what I was doing. He didn't even see me. I barely believed it could possibly work myself. I was just a mother desperate to do something to help her son. That was all I could think of and figured it was worth a try. That's not the end of the story. After surgery, my son was in horrific pain, even with meds. So again I took a leap of faith and decided to do more healing with energy work for him. Making the TT passes in front of his face seemed to help him relax a bit. He could not talk, but at times would sign frantically to me to make more clearing passes. Days later, when he could finally talk, I asked if TT took the pain away. He said, no, but it helped him bear it. Full recuperation was supposed to take six to nine months. Knowing that healing with energy could significantly speed healing, I did more healing energy work for him over the next few weeks. This, along with excellent nutrition and full compliance with doctors orders, helped him recover quickly. Ten weeks after surgery, the doctor stood in amazement as he looked at the films again and again muttering, "I can't believe it, look at these X-rays." He was given permission to resume any and all activities. Needless to say, this experience made a believer out of both of us. I went on to complete all three levels of TT and advanced training as well. I have since studied other bio energy healing methods and vibrational remedies. I haven't looked back since.
