Saint Johns Wort (Hypericum Perforatum) is well-known for improving mild depression and relaxing the nervous system. This helps quiet the pain. This is a good herb to take if you are feeling anxious or depressed because you hurt. It can be taken internally as a tincture or used externally as an oil. Combine the Saint John's Wort oil with lavender essential oil for muscle and nerve pain. Add Capsaicin to your oil or use alone. This hot pepper herbal remedy works by directly interfering with pain perception. It eases pain and triggers feel good endorphins. Use the cream externally on painful areas. Keep away from your eyes! Take tinctures or capsules for chronic digestive discomfort. If you're troubled with painful, tense muscles, relax them and yourself with calming herbs such as hops, passionflower, chamomile, valerian, kava kava, green tea and/or catnip. Devils's claw root relieves neck, shoulder, and back tension. It also helps with arthritis pain in the hips and knees. Black Cohosh has a long history as an herbal pain relief remedy. It is known for relieving ovarian or menstrual cramps while balancing a woman's reproductive system. It is also quite valuable for muscle aches and the pains of rheumatism, arthritis, sciatica and neuralgia.
Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) taken as a tincture or infusion often throughout the day is helpful for chronic and acute pain because it relaxes your nervous system. This may be a good herbal remedy for you to partner with if you are experiencing anxious feelings and sleeplessness because of pain. It is also reported to help with muscle spasms, tension headaches and fibromyalgia. Other herbs known as herbal pain relief remedies include ginger, boswellia, feverfew and fennel, to name a few. Ginger is a warming herb that reduces inflammation, eases cramps, and improves circulation. It's used for motion sickness, stomach cramps, painful joints, headaches and tendonitis. Feverfew is known as natural pain reliever for headaches. It reduces how often you get headaches and how severe they are. Take regularly if you suffer from migraines. Fennel relieves pain and spasms, making it especially good for menstrual cramps and colic. For intestinal pain try fennel or enteric-coated peppermint. Boswellia is as effective as NSAIDs for reducing inflammation. It helps with the inflammation of sports injuries, arthritis, Irritable Bowel, and autoimmune conditions.
