Mind Powers: Levels of Consciousness

To benefit fully from practices using mind powers for healing and manifesting, it's helpful to have a basic understanding of levels of consciousness and the concept of mind.

Mind powers are not limited to levels of consciousness in the brain alone.

Research shows that individual cells have their own innate intelligence.

Quantum physics suggests the probability that universal energy waves have intelligence. It's possible that these waves carry the collective superconscious of the planet and beyond.

Even though we talk about levels of consciousness and different minds, we only have one brain. Areas of the brain communicate with each other and work together. Specific areas of the brain have different functions and operate at different levels of conscious awareness.

At its physical level, the brain has been likened to a 'neuro-chemical circuit board'. It receives and records information. It also processes and transmits information. Some processes take time, others happen in a nanosecond.

Many brain chemicals are neurotransmitters used to control communications between the brain and the rest of the body via nerve cells. Read an example of how this works in your body's stress response.

There is still much to be learned about how the brain works and the power of the mind.

The Three Levels of Consciousness

Humans are believed to have three levels of consciousness. They are the conscious mind, the unconscious or subconscious mind, and the superconscious mind. If you accept the possibility that there is superconsciousness as part of the brain, and a universal superconsciousness that we can all access, then there are actually four levels of conciousness.

The Conscious Mind is the part of the brain we are most aware of. We use it for thinking, analyzing, imagining and learning.

The Subconscious Mind resides in the regions of the brain that run the show. All our automatic processes are controlled subconsciously. The subconscious carries out body functions as well as learned behaviors. It is the place of dreams, instincts, personal stored memories, ancestral memories, emotional awareness and belief systems.

Freudians call the subconscious mind the unconscious. Others call the superconscious the unconscious mind.

Subconscious mind powers are many times more powerful and responds faster than the conscious mind. Humans operate from subconscious levels of mind approximately 95% of the time.

The Superconscious Mind is the source of some controversy. Some believe it exists, others consider it part of the subconscious mind. It is often associated with collective unconsciousness, which we all access in the quantum field.

The superconscious mind is associated with higher potential, creativity, intuition, quantum reality and spiritual awareness.

experiencing the collective superconscious is still open to debate.

Dr Rick Levy, author of Miraculous Health illustrates the three levels of mind and how they relate to mind powers in this short video.

Mindbody Consciousness

Another factor in considering levels of mind beside the brain is the intelligence and mind powers of our body's cells.

Dr. Bruce Lipton likens cells to miniature people. They have the same systems and receptors as skin so they can perceive their environment and the community of cells at large. They receive information from the brain and energy field and respond accordingly.

If we experience an emotion our cells experience it as well through the energy vibrations and chemistry of the body. Each cell in the body functions independently and as a member of the community that makes up your body.

Other fields of study revolve around the innate intelligence of the heart and immune system. Scientists have found brain-like structures in systems throughout the body. The electro-magnetic field of the heart is many times stronger than that of the brain.

The belief that mind powers and levels of consciousness belong to the brain alone is a belief of the past. Most of us have experienced bodymind intelligence for ourselves. We use expressions like, "I knew it in my gut," or "My hair stood on end and I got goosebumps when I saw/heard that."

Some holistic practitioners use kinesiology (muscle testing) to access the intelligence of the body directly while bypassing the interference of the conscious mind.

Mind powers and levels of consciousness are not only a function of the brain, but of the cells and systems of the body. There is much to learn about how these processes work. As more truths are uncovered we will be able to use that knowledge to help ourselves heal and achieve our dreams.

Techniques have already been developed to help us tap the power of the mind. We can influence our health and lives without being at the mercy of unconscious programming from childhood and no longer serve our conscious goals. Most of these methods require you to tap into the power of your subconscious mind.
