A Positive Mental Attitude

Do you have a positive mental attitude or do you focus more on negative thinking? Do you notice the sunshine or just the clouds? Do you entertain possibilities, or believe all is doom and gloom?

Thinking positively and having a positive mental attitude make people happier, more optimistic, and healthier than their pessimistic counterparts.

Positive people aren't blind to the problems and challenges in life. They may have as many, if not more than others. But people who practice thinking positively tend to approach life with acceptance and faith. They have a can-do attitude. They believe they can have joy in the face of trouble and can heal even if they can't be cured. They extend their positive view to others and life in general.

The good news is that even if you have persistent negative emotions and thinking patterns you can benefit from emotional and mental healing techniques and and develop a positive mental attitude. You just need to take one step at a time.

How to Have a Positive Mental Attitude

Negative thinking patterns are common and easy to identify. Shifting them to a more positive mental attitude can be a bit more challenging. Fortunately, releasing negative thoughts is quite doable with commitment and some simple techniques.

Develop awareness.
If you are tired of feeling bad about yourself, and making choices that aren't in your best interest, take a look at your thoughts. Thoughts, feelings and actions flow from one to the other in a continuous cycle.

So the first step to mental healing for negative thought patterns is awareness. When are you already thinking positively? Celebrate that success. You can use it as a model for other areas. What do you tell yourself that's limiting or negative? Review the list of negative thinking patterns and see if any pop out as "favorites". Observe yourself and listen as you think and speak to see when, how and why you use them.

If you can examine the thought in more detail right away, great. If not jot yourself a note. What is behind that thought? Where did it come from? Whose voice is it? What's the benefit of keeping this thought? What is the truth? What do you want instead?

It would also be enlightening to notice how that thought makes you feel and what actions you take as a result. Keep in mind that action takes many forms. They include the words you speak, what you do, and what you don't do. Inaction is also a type of action.

Here is a good test of whether a thought pattern is negative or positive for you. If the thought causes you to feel good and take positive, appropriate action, it's most likely positive. Thinking positively is expansive. Negative thoughts, on the other hand, tend to be judgmental and critical. You feel bad about yourself and others and your actions reflect that.

Tell yourself the truth.
Once your awareness is heightened, it is easier to stop the cycle in its tracks and change it to more positive thoughts. Stop exaggerating, generalizing, and putting a negative spin on things.

It's a matter of telling yourself the truth.

The truth is that you are a magnificent being of light. If you don't believe me, watch this video series by Dr. Klinghart.

The truth is that your mind and body have great potential to heal and move towards your dreams. The truth is that your limiting beliefs and negative thoughts are a result of early programming and can be changed by you when you decide that they no longer serve you. Apply the techniques below to all these statements if you can't believe them right now.

You may have a favorite that you want to use over and over or several depending on your mood, needs and intuition at the time. They all work.

What can be a little tricky is getting your subconscious mind to believe and accept your new programming. Otherwise, your efforts will largely be in vain.

Consciously shift to more positive thoughts.
When you hear yourself thinking a negative thought, stop yourself immediately. Make this a habit. Shift it to a slightly more positive thought that you can accept as truth. Even a small shift can reap big gains. It's a step in a healthier direction. When you are comfortable with that thought, shift it again.

For example, you may start with a statement such as:"I'm not going to try because I always fail." Shift to:"What if I just check into it?" Shift to:"I can easily do x. I'll start today." And so on.

Forgive.
The past is over, let it go. To hold on to hard feelings against another, no matter how much you feel they deserve it, will only rob you of joy and the emotional and mental healing you desire. It will keep you in a cycle of negative thoughts and emotions. The person you hurt most with unforgiveness is you.

Practice gratitude.
Expressing gratitude will shift negative thoughts and emotions quickly. Catch your negative self-talk and turn those thoughts into thoughts of gratitude. An attitude of gratitude is a healthy mental habit to develop.

Use Energy Psychology Techniques.
On your own or with a trusted practitioner, meridian tapping techniques, ZPoint and others can help you release negative thoughts and emotions quickly and with ease. They help you gently shift to a more positive mental attitude.

Mediation
Meditation can help you relax and be present. It can also help you get in touch with the divine and who you really are. Certain energy meditation techniques, such as the Core Energy Technique are specifically designed to help you release negative thoughts, beliefs and emotions.
