Got Nurdles?

Unfortunately, like the rest of us, you do.

Ranging in size from microscopic grains to millimeter-sized pellets, non-biodegradable nurdles are the second-largest direct source of microplastic pollution to the ocean by weight. Because these tiny bits of toxin-laden plastic resemble floating fish eggs, birds and marine life gobble them up. Since this plastic is not excreted as waste, it stays in the stomach, tricking the animal into thinking it is full when in fact it is dying of starvation. When creatures higher up on the food chain eat them, all that plastic ends up in them - and you.

Marine life are not the only victims of plastic pollution. Studies show that the average person ingests and inhales 5 grams of plastic each week - the weight of a credit card - primarily from bottled water, synthetic fibers indoor air, tap water, and seafood - and inhales a whopping 11.3 microscopic pieces of plastic every hour.

Evidence suggests that these microplastics can pass through the blood-brain barrier and into the placenta of pregnant mothers. Even at low doses, chemicals in these plastics can cause cancers, weaken the immune system, cause reproductive problems, and more. Pretty scary, especially considering that it has only taken 50 years to do this to the ocean, its inhabitants, and ourselves in the last 50 years.

What to do:

Although you cannot totally shield yourself from microplastics, you can protect yourself and others by saying no to bottled water, products containing plastic microbeads, including beauty products that you rinse off (to go down the drain into the water supply), and microfiber furniture and clothing. Filter your tap water, do not reheat foods in plastic containers, and keep your home as dust-free as possible.

Update on my upcoming book

The good news...

The front cover has been finalized!

After a few week's delay for necessary revisions, the book is now back in the formatter's capable hands. Hopefully, it will be in print by November.

In the meantime, feedback has been positive. Here are a few excerpts from endorsers:

"a beautifully written book that inspires readers to re-think their approach to humans, animals, and the natural world." -Dahlia Benaroya, Founder, HelpingAbusedAnimals.com

"an insightful book for readers who want to believe in the Universal Laws instead of the dogma crafted by religious institutions." - Mamta Madhavan for Readers’ Favorite (5 Stars)

"Regardless of your faith tradition, you will find this book enlightening and a doorway into the unique ways that various traditions experience the love of nature in their lives." - Bishop Doug Marlow, Anglican Church of Christ the King

Sacred Activism

One of the topics covered in One Creation Under God is sacred activism, a term coined by Andrew Harvey in his book, The Hope: A Guide to Sacred Activism, one of my favorite books. In the book, he suggests that you primarily focus your efforts on working toward solutions to the one cause that breaks your heart.

Mr. Harvey graciously allowed me to quote him in my book. Here is an excerpt from my book:

With inner joy, spiritual activists effectively embrace their role as benevolent servant-leaders for the good of all. Religious scholar Andrew Harvey coined this ministry “sacred activism”, the transforming force of compassionate action born of courage, love, passion, and deep spiritual knowledge. On a grand scale, sacred activism becomes an essential force for healing and preservingthe planet. In his book, The Hope: A Guide to Sacred Activism, Harvey says: "A spirituality that is only private and self-absorbed, one devoid of an authentic political and social consciousness, does little to halt the suicidal juggernaut of history. On the other hand, an activism that is not purified by profound spiritual and psychological self-awareness and rooted in divine truth, wisdom, and compassion will only perpetuate the problem it is trying to solve, however righteous its intentions. When, however, the deepest and most grounded spiritual vision is married to a practical and pragmatic drive to transform all existing political, economic, and social institutions, a holy force – the power of wisdom and love in action – is born. This force I define as Sacred Activism."

As supplements to One Creation Under God, I have written articles about spiritual activists who worked for the good of people and animals to inspire us (me included) to take steps to add more kindness and responsible actions to our world in little and big ways. It all helps.

Two of these notable individuals were Mohandas Gandhi and Saint Francis of Asissi. Read about them on my blog:

Mohandas Gandhi: Spiritual Activist

Saint Francis of Assisi: Friend of Animals and People

What wisdom or words of inspiration can you incorporate into your own life? What do you do to promote positive changes in conditions that break your heart? Share in the comments below the articles.

Neuroplasticity-Rewiring Your Brain

Neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to create new neural pathways in response to learning, is a hot topic in the worlds of self-growth, healing, and manifesting.

Scientists used to think that once you reached adulthood, the brain stayed static, or worse, declined with time. Not so. After decades of research, they have learned that no matter what your age, your brain can learn and develop new pathways. The truth is, this happens every time you have a new experience or learn something. You can teach an old dog new tricks! Depending on how you live and act, neural connections in the brain are constantly being created or deleted. The more habitual and rigid your thinking, movement, and activities are, the more your brain tends to deteriorate and the more likely you are to experience pain, limitation, and malaise. When neural pathways are not used they die off in a process called “synaptic-pruning.” Most adult brains reflect a lot of pruning as people settle into habitual living patterns.

It is also true that you can purposely create new pathways to transform yourself and make your life better using techniques that "rewire the brain" (or a similar catchphrase). Transformational approaches are based on techniques that facilitate these changes - visualization, affirmations, acting “as if”, and so on.

I wrote a comprehensive article on a scientific approach to rewiring the brain as a supplement to my upcoming book, One Creation Under God. The article focuses on enlivening your innate human traits of feeling empathy and taking compassionate action, but the 5-step method works for any goal you want to prime your brain for.

Get this ebook to find out how to identify and rewire your beliefs about money and success...

Do you know what the #1 cause of stress is?

It's money! Money typically stresses people out more than anything else in their lives. And with stress comes... you got it... unhappiness and health challenges. Yikes!

That's why I can't stress enough (pun intended) the importance of addressing any issues around money in your life. So today I want to share with you a great free resource that can help you in this area.

It's a-powerful free eBook offered by our affiliates at the Tapping Solution called, "103 Disempowering Beliefs Around Money and Success and How to Eliminate Them in Minutes!" by New York Times and Amazon #1 bestselling author Nick Ortner.

You can access the book here.

Here's why identifying these beliefs is so powerful - not only can they affect your level of income and success, but they also affect your health and relationships for better or worse. So to help you identify your limiting beliefs:

1 - The book lists 103 disempowering beliefs about money and success and takes you through an easy-to-follow discovery process that will help you figure out exactly what beliefs are holding you back. I think this discovery process is incredibly eye-opening because it brings your disempowering beliefs to the forefront of your awareness so that you can shift them. You may be pretty surprised at what comes up for you when you go through this simple process that takes just a few minutes.

2 - On the positive side, the eBook also lists 103 empowering beliefs that you can start using immediately as positive affirmations to counteract any disempowering beliefs you may have.

3 - It also shows you how to use a powerful Tapping technique to get at the core of these disempowering beliefs, and to allow you to change them fast. Tapping works because it eases stress, shifts your perspectives, and literally rewires the brain. Once you experience it you'll know exactly what I mean.

4 - Here's the best part... when you eliminate disempowering beliefs around money, and the stress that comes with them, it can have a positive effect on your health, success, and happiness.

I highly recommend getting this free eBook right now.
