About Val

I believe there are many paths to wellness and that all healing is self-healing. We are all interconnected. As we heal ourselves we heal the world. And as we heal the world we heal ourselves. ~Val Silver

Hi! I'm Val Silver.
My mission is to encourage you to take responsibility for your own well-being, to embrace your healing potential, and overcome sabotaging behaviors so you can create and enjoy a healthier, happier life for yourself and others.

A few years ago, one of my clients (a counselor) told me that I was good at listening and helping people with their problems. He surmised that I had obviously worked on so many of my own issues that I wasn’t afraid to help people face theirs and resolve them. He was right.

After spending years of hinging my happiness star on others, and literally watching my body age from the stress of a divorce and relationship losses, I realized and accepted the fact that my state of happiness and wellness could only come from me. I was responsible for my own well-being. It was then that I began my holistic self-care journey in earnest.

As I learned and observed the benefits of mindbody wellness techniques in myself and others, I realized that when you step into your power by releasing limiting beliefs, becoming educated, and accepting responsibility for yourself, life is richer. You feel happier, healthier, more at peace, and in control of your own life. You notice opportunities and are more likely to move forward in all areas of life.

I also learned that life and wellness is a journey and an evolution. There are extreme challenges to face and joys to be savored, as well as the 'everydayness of life'. And with all of that comes deeper levels of healing and growing as we walk the path of life.

One of those challenges showed up for me as a ruptured disk in my back. It left me with fairly extensive nerve damage, pain issues and physical limitations. A lot of 'love and accept myself and my body' healing work took place over the last few years as I face this challenge and the adjustments it demands in my life.

One day as I was lying in bed feeling sorry for myself because of pain, I realized I was riding the spiral into depression. This was my point of choice. I made the decision to forgive my body for 'failing me' and the medical people for 'steering me wrong'. I decided to adjust and be thankful for what is, and make the best of it. Thankfully, my body has done a lot of healing since then, but it still reminds me to be mindful of its needs or else.

Unlike my divorce days, when I felt like I was at the mercy of my negative emotions, stress, and circumstances, I now have a toolbox full of well used spiritual and energy healing techniques to help me shift my perspective and embrace my life.

So yes, I can tell you that the energy techniques I share really do work. And I know how to work with them. I’m my own best living example.

A Bit More About Me...

I live in Northern New York near Lake Ontario with my husband and our adorable rescue Shi-tzu/Bichon Frise dog, Teddy. I share Teddy's story in my new book, Rescue Me: Tales of Rescuing the Dogs Who Became Our Teachers, Healers, and Always Faithful Friends. This book marries my love of dogs and healing. As a fundraiser, it is my way of giving back to the animals and their caregivers who bless and heal our lives in so many ways. 

Between us, my husband and I have four grown children who have blessed us with 11 grandchildren. 

During the school year I teach reading recovery to struggling first graders. It’s a challenging and rewarding job - in some ways very much like coaching! I also enjoy teaching and helping you use the healing techniques to get the results you want. And we usually have fun doing it!

My passions are holistic health and healing along with conscious awakening and spirituality. When I'm not at school, I spend a lot of time researching related topics that interest me and can help others. I am spiritual, but not religious. I believe that faith is more than words, and is demonstrated by how we live and help others.

When the weather allows, I like to ride my bicycle, take walks and chat with my neighbors.

On chilly days (a lot around here) I like to curl up with a good book, watch TV, or enjoy a movie while sipping a cup of hot herbal tea. Of course there’s also social media and surfing the web to keep me busy.  Join me on my facebook page.

Since publishing this website in 2009, I spend a lot of time writing and publishing articles. That’s been a lot of fun- especially getting to 'meet' you, my readers, and read your comments. I’ve even posted a few videos and audios-I'm definitely not a pro in that department but I hope you enjoy them and learn from them. 

Currently, I'm working on my new book titled Humans, Animals and God. It's my search for the truth about what sages, scriptures and ancient traditions teach about our relationship with non-human beings (and ultimately ourselves.  I'm exploring topics such as interconnection, meat-eating, dominion, and animal welfare. I hope to have the book published in 2018.
