Guided Healing Meditations for Relaxation and Health

By Val Silver

Guided healing meditations are a great way to relax and calm your entire being while focusing your mind on the wellness you want.

If you are new to meditating, have trouble holding a relaxed focus on your own, or just dislike sitting in silence, meditation videos and audios make it easy to enjoy and benefit from different types of meditation.

Guided meditations lead you through a series of steps and/or affirmations as you relax and go with the flow. They are especially helpful for taming the constant chatter of  'monkey mind'.

Choose guided meditation videos with voices, sounds, music and time frames that suit your taste and help you feel comfortable. Ideally, they will help you relax into a calm, focused state. You will often know within a few seconds if someone's voice is soothing or if it sounds empty or more like nails on a chalkboard.

Meditations for healing and health can last several minutes to over an hour, making it convenient to squeeze one in when you have a few minutes. Do sometimes allow at least 20 minutes to an hour or so for deep relaxation. Then your body can make healing hormones and use the power of your mind to heal.

Many videos are really just audios put in video format. That is okay since your eyes will probably be closed anyway. You want to hold a soft inward focus while you absorb the messages.  If you want to keep your eyes open, choose videos with pleasing images.

Listen often to those you enjoy. You can find many of them on youtube or for purchase. Below are two videos for you to sample.

Guided Relaxation

Guided relaxation meditations are effective and popular for good reason. Stress is a major contributor toward becoming ill and staying ill.  In order to heal, your mind and body must be relaxed. Especially when you are wound up, this can be challenging to do on your own. Listening to soothing music and a lulling voice can help. Because of that, meditating to relieve stress does double duty for healing and well-being. Here is a nice sample of a deep relaxation meditation.

The video is titled "Guided Meditation - Blissful Deep Relaxation".

A Guided Healing Meditation

Guided healing meditations can be very similar to guided imagery. The terms are often used interchangeably. Some meditation styles include visualizing and the best visualizations are meditative.

Often they both include the same three stages as hypnosis - promoting relaxation, the meditation itself, and the close. Deep relaxation is important for influencing your subconscious mind. It is your subconscious mind that accepts what you affirm and visualize. It sends the message for your body and mind to heal and attract what you want.

Where they might differ is in the second stage. Instead of actively visualizing what you want,  the emphasis may be a prolonged focus on breath, a repeated chant, or sounds.

This is a lovely short guided healing meditation for pain and sickness. It is titled, "Heal Your Body - Spoken Guided Meditation".
